OpenADR 2.0 Training Resources

QualityLogic offers several training options for companies and organizations interested in developing products or programs involving the OpenADR 2.0 specification, including "a" and "b" profiles. For details, see QualityLogic’s website.

QualityLogic, the official test tool vendor to the OpenADR Alliance, offers two in-person courses and one online training program covering different aspects of OpenADR 2.0:

  • OpenADR 2.0 Developer's Workshop for companies and organizations interested in developing products or programs involving the OpenADR 2.0 specification
  • Fundamentals of OpenADR, an online video training program for companies and organizations interested in developing products or programs involving the OpenADR 2.0 specification
  • Implementing Automated DR Programs for utilities, DR designers and program implementers planning to use OpenADR 2.0.

Both in person workshops are available as private, on-site or near-site sessions for a single organization, or as open-enrollment workshops scheduled periodically.

Both in person workshops and the online course are led by Jim Zuber, QualityLogic’s Chief Test Architect and co-founder, and architect of several QualityLogic testing products. OpenADR Alliance selected QualityLogic to develop the certification test suite for OpenADR 2.0, and Jim led this development effort. Jim is intimately familiar with the OpenADR 2.0 specification, authored the OpenADR Test Specification and PICS, designed the certification test harness, and was a major contributor to the profile specification itself.

A subscription to the program allows participants the ability to access 6 hours of training in 9 videos for a three-month period. The training program begins by discussing DR, the OpenADR standard in general and then moves into a detailed discussion of the technical requirements of the standard. The content for the online training program is the same as the Developer’s Workshop.

There are two different courses available – Fundamentals of OpenADR and Fundamentals of OpenADR Plus. The Plus version has the same video material as our Fundamentals of OpenADR course but also comes with the addition of direct instructor support totaling 3 hours by email or webinar for supplemental discussion of specific issues.

Implementing Automated DR Programs

This workshop, offered as a one-day onsite or two-day open enrollment class, is geared specifically for utilities and others interested in implementing Demand Response programs using the OpenADR 2.0 technology.   The workshop grows out OpenADR training for over a dozen utilities and the observation that a workshop focused on implementation of OpenADR would be valuable to this audience.  The workshop focuses specifically on using OpenADR 2 to implement ADR programs and is structured as four modules.
