Powerit Solutions Receives OpenADR Alliance 2.0b Profile Certification

Full-Feature Specification for Complex Energy Management Solutions Enriches Demand Response and Distributed Energy Resource Management at Wholesale and Retail Levels

Seattle, WA., May 21, 2014 – Powerit Solutions, an international energy management technology company, today announced receipt of the OpenADR 2.0b Profile Specification certification.

OpenADR 2.0b is a full-feature specification for complex energy management solutions supporting automated demand response (DR) and distributed energy resource management for both wholesale and retail programs.

Released in July 2013, OpenADR 2.0b builds on OpenADR 2.0a and the earlier OpenADR 1.0, which has been supported by Powerit Solutions.

The OpenADR 2.0b profile specification is designed for more sophisticated devices and will support most DR services and markets. It also includes flexible reporting capabilities for past, current and future data reports.

“Powerit Solutions is a well known supplier of OpenADR solutions,” said Barry Haaser, managing director of the OpenADR Alliance. “The newly certified Spara Hub™ offers customers with legacy OpenADR 1.0 products with a clear migration path to upgrade their products to participate in OpenADR 2.0b programs.”

The OpenADR Alliance – the sponsoring organization of OpenADR 2.0b – fosters the development, adoption and compliance of the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) standard through collaboration, education, training, testing and certification.

“The OpenADR standard is rapidly becoming the international solution of choice for residential, commercial and industrial DR programs,” says Kevin Klustner, the CEO of Powerit Solutions. “We’ve enabled many customers to automate participation in OpenADR 1.0 programs, and are pleased to join those entities who are implementing OpenADR 2.0.  DR helps realize the potential of the smart grid by bringing consumers into the equation and finding an optimal balance of supply and demand.“

Why DR Matters to Customers

DR programs help operators lower customer energy usage during peak-demand periods, when there are high wholesale market prices, or when grid stress strikes. Automating DR adds predictability to customer responses and enables businesses to preplan their response so that value can be realized and impact on customers and operations is controlled and minimized. Participating in DR opens up a new revenue stream for end users.

DR programs help utilities avoid building new power plants, and also help them take advantage of load flexibility to optimize the energy system as a whole. In addition, consumers get paid for their flexibility, sometimes with no impact on operations, especially if response is automated.
