OpenADR 2.0 Training Resources

QualityLogic is offering a two-day workshop for companies and organizations interested in developing products or programs involving the OpenADR 2.0 specification, including "a" and "b" profiles. The next session is scheduled for September 16-17 in Southern California. OpenADR Members receive a $200 discount, and an additional $200 discount is available for early registrations. For details, see QualityLogic’s website, and register here.

QualityLogic, the official test tool vendor to the OpenADR Alliance, offers two courses covering different aspects of OpenADR 2:

  • OpenADR 2.0 Developer's Workshop for companies and organizations interested in developing products or programs involving the OpenADR 2.0 specification
  • Implementing Automated DR Programs for utilities, DR designers and program implementers planning to use OpenADR 2.0.

Both workshops are available as private, on-site or near-site sessions for a single organization, or as open-enrollment workshops scheduled periodically.

OpenADR Members receive a $200 discount on both workshops, and an additional $200 discount is available for early registrations.

Both workshops are led by Jim Zuber, QualityLogic’s Chief Test Architect and co-founder, and architect of several QualityLogic testing products. OpenADR Alliance selected QualityLogic to develop the certification test suite for OpenADR 2.0, and Jim led this development effort. Jim is intimately familiar with the OpenADR 2.0 specification, authored the OpenADR Test Specification and PICS, designed the certification test harness, and was a major contributor to the profile specification itself.

OpenADR 2.0 Developer's Workshop

This two-day workshop addresses the needs of companies and organizations that are developing products or programs involving the OpenADR 2.0 specification, including "a" and "b" profiles. The workshop provides both a conceptual and a detailed technical understanding of what OpenADR 2.0 is and how it works. Participants will become familiar with OpenADR 2.0 technology; Certification Profiles a and b; the formal conformance certification program; and the pre-certification tests and tools for these profiles and OpenADR specifications. In addition, the Workshop illustrates how OpenADR can automate typical utility DR programs. Snippets from several segments are available on QualityLogic's website.

Check our Events page for scheduled open enrollment courses.

Implementing Automated DR Programs

This workshop, offered as a one-day onsite or two-day open enrollment class, is geared specifically for utilities and others interested in implementing Demand Response programs using the OpenADR 2.0 technology.   The workshop grows out OpenADR training for over a dozen utilities and the observation that a workshop focused on implementation of OpenADR would be valuable to this audience.  The workshop focuses specifically on using OpenADR 2 to implement ADR programs and is structured as four modules:

  • Overview
    • A high level overview of OpenADR features and functions, and a more detailed look at each of the supported services
  • Demand Response program design
    • Examines program design from an OpenADR perspective using the methodologies and program templates being developed as part of the OpenADR Alliance DR Program Guide
  • Demand Response management systems
    • Focuses on the relationship between the DRMS and the communications protocol carrying the DR messages
  • Interoperability in Demand Response implementation and pre-deployment testing
    • Discusses methodologies for pre-deployment testing of automated DR systems. The module concludes with a demonstration using open source technology to implement the test methodologies
