In 2024, the OpenADR Alliance witnessed significant expansion with a notable 40 new members, resulting in a cumulative count of over 200 members spanning North America, Asia and Europe, validating the Alliance’s influence. The Alliance as of today has 319 certified products and is now working with 10 approved test facilities in eight countries.
The OpenADR Alliance is excited to share the impact it has had over the last year with its annual review. The 2024 report highlights the successful growth and global adoption of the OpenADR standard. You’ll learn more about how the standard is helping utilities manage the growing pool of distributed energy resources (DER), which include renewable energy, energy storage, demand response and electric vehicle charging.
In addition to the ‘business-as-usual’ tasks, the report highlights ways the Alliance is working on formulating strategies around system conformance, flexibility asset tracking, and DER information exchange. In 2025, we will continue to look for ways to open up new markets for our members by further harmonizing Demand Flexibility programs. On the subject of demand flexibility, our annual report goes into detail about how the. OpenADR standard is enabling flexibility in New Zealand.
The OpenADR 3.0 standard was a key behind-the scenes initiative with the launch of the OpenADR 3.0 certification program.
At the end of 2024, the Alliance held a Hackathon hosted by board member PG&E in California. The event was well received and the 20 participating developers demonstrated impressive knowledge of the standard. It was also interesting to see the usage of AI to easily build software products surrounding OpenADR. We look forward to more interoperability events and the rollout of OpenADR 3.0 certified products throughout the year.
Another important initiative touched on in the report is the growing need to connect appliances efficiently to the grid. In addition to OpenADR, the EcoPort certification (certification standard for CTA-2045) continues being adopted by manufacturers and regulators. If attending AHR Expo in Orlando (Feb. 10-12) be sure to attend our panel session: Grid Interactive Buildings via EcoPort on Feb. 10th at 11AM ET.
With 2025 well underway, we look ahead to building on the momentum generated over the last 12 months. We are actively working on plans to strategically expand into new global market segments, as well as continue to strengthen ties with other standards bodies and government/policy organizations – all highlighted in our 2024 Annual Report.
